FERAL • FOOD
Your body is ancient.
Your food is not.
Evolutionary mismatch, the gut-brain axis, and the radical power of eating like a human again. Science in one hand, dinner in the other.
THE PREMISE
The mismatch.
Your biology was shaped over hundreds of thousands of years for a world of whole foods, movement, sunlight, and scarcity. It now lives in a world of ultra-processed abundance, and it never got the update. That gap between what your body expects and what modern life delivers is called evolutionary mismatch, and it sits underneath a staggering amount of what we call "just how I feel now."
This is the lens of my doctoral work in Mind-Body Medicine, and the lane where my nutrition training lives. FERAL Food is where the two meet.
The gut talks to the brain.
The gut-brain axis is a two-way conversation, running through the vagus nerve, the immune system, and the trillions of microbes you feed three times a day. What you eat participates in how you feel. Not metaphorically. Mechanically.
Food is information.
Nutritional mental health is a young, growing field, and its early message is old wisdom with new receipts: the brain is an organ, organs are built and run on nutrients, and eating like a human matters to the mind that lives in one.
The fix is older than the problem.
The answer to a mismatch is not a more complicated protocol. It is less mismatch.
